In partnership with FortisBC’s BUILT BETTER program, HAVAN and CHBA Fraser Valley are presenting the second full-day session of a four-part series, A Holistic Approach to Improving Air Tightness on Tuesday, December 3 in Surrey. Led by Hamid Heidarali of Hamid Design Build, these highly interactive and hands-on workshops are designed to bring together builders and their teams (site staff, designers, trades, consultants).  Team learning is the key to building better homes.

The second air tightness session will focus on below grade and above grade walls.  Hamid will take an in-depth exploration of air tightness in part 9 buildings, supported by 40 mobile building envelope assemblies and various applicable case studies.

This seminar series features:

  • A holistic perspective towards the overall satisfactory performance of the building envelope as far as air tightness is concerned.
  • Various methods of improving air tightness in wood-framed buildings.
  • Air barrier selection process with the focus on improving thermal comfort, energy efficiency, moisture management, long-term performance, adaptability to future repair and renovation.
  • Effective air barrier detailing at the intersection between various building envelope assemblies as well as around penetrations

  • Hamid Heidarali, P. Eng

    Hamid Heidarali has a strong passion for high performance, durable buildings that minimize their impact on the environment, while providing a superior experience for their occupants. Having worked as a building science consultant on a wide range of projects over the past 15 years in Canada has provided him with valuable insight into building envelope issues and practical solutions.

    Hamid holds Professional Engineering designation in Ontario and British Columbia, a LEED Accredited Professional in Canada, and a certified Passive House Tradesperson through Germany. He received his Master of Engineering in Building Science and Construction Management, and his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

    Hamid is a principal at HDB, a building science consulting firm based in Vancouver, Canada. He is a part-time instructor and faculty at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), and teaches building envelope courses to Masters Students as part of the Building Science Graduate Program. He also offers interactive workshops to construction professionals on a regular basis.
