Working in a male-dominated industry has its challenges, including ‘glass ceilings.’  Discussing issues faced by women in various cultures and work environments, and exploring who actually creates and holds power over these ceilings is the focus of the Women’s Council Café  – Stories that Break the Glass Ceiling.

Guest speakers Debbie Pearmain, Senior HR Consultant, One Stop HR, and Nitasha Rajora, Director of Development, ETRO Construction, Architect AIBC, bring first-hand experience from the construction industry.

Working with CEOs and leadership teams for over 25 years facilitating organizational and leadership transformation projects, Debbie helps clients view problems as opportunities for growth and change and creates breakthrough strategies that help people and organizations achieve their full potential.

Nitasha, Director of Development at ETRO Construction, acts as the conduit between corporate development and operations and wears multiple hats juggling strategic planning, corporate initiatives, and new business ventures. With over 20 years of experience, Nitasha’s career spans the globe from Durban, South Africa, London (UK), Boston, New York, Toronto, and now Vancouver.

Debbie has spent her career consulting and coaching clients at the personal, team, leader and organizational level. Her background in Social Work and Human Resource Management has given her a deep understanding of human behavior and makes her a culture expert. Her extensive training in Leadership Development and Emotional Intelligence, Mental Health and Resiliency assists clients in reaching new levels of engagement and performance. She is a certified ACC coach with the ICF.

    Nitasha is the Director of Development at ETRO Construction, one of the fastest growing construction management and general contracting firms in BC. ETRO’s goal is to deliver exceptional projects in an ever-changing construction market; where technology, a new generation of construction professionals and a desire to do things differently forever innovate the way we build.

    Nitasha is a registered Architect who has worked across all facets of the building industry in design, construction, and real estate development. Over the past 20 years, she has had the opportunity to work across the globe in Durban, South Africa, London (UK), Boston, New York, Toronto and Vancouver on a range of project types that include affordable & market housing, high-rise office, industrial, healthcare and athletic facilities.

    After 10 years as a practising Architect, Nitasha completed her MBA at the Schulich School of Business with a focus in real estate and infrastructure development. Immediately after graduation, she dove into the world of P3s (public private partnerships) working intensively as a Project Director on social infrastructure projects.

    Since leaving the P3 world, her career has been focused on construction and real estate development where she has had the opportunity to work with companies to deliver projects across various asset types. In her current role at ETRO, Nitasha acts as the conduit between corporate development and operations. She wears multiple hats juggling strategic planning, corporate initiatives, and new business ventures with her true passion – working on and delivering great projects.
