Building Smart #16 Seminar 2012 Code Changes – Safety, Efficiency and Sustainability

Building Smart #16 seminar focuses on the key Part 9 code changes of the BC Building Code and the Vancouver Building By-law (VBBL).

Participants will learn about the impact the new requirements will have on various regions throughout the province.

This three-hour seminar will cover:

  • Reasons behind the changes relating to lateral load resistance and potential new radon mitigation
  • New VBBL requirements for accessibility, energy and sustainability
  • Examples of building solutions that comply with the new requirements, and
  • Cost estimates of adding each new requirement to a new home construction project.

The Homeowner Protection Office will be presenting its spring 2012 Building Smart seminar in 22 communities across B.C. from April 11 to May 31, 2012.

We anticipate Building and Safety Standards Branch staff from the Province’s Office of Housing & Construction Standards will be attending many of the venues to answer questions about the new BC Building Code and the Building Regulatory System Modernization Project.
