Association honours industry achievers for excellence
The Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) presented its annual Association Awards of Excellence at Burnaby’s Riverway Golf Course on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Guest speaker Greg Moore presented ‘Building the Region – Why is it so Difficult’, shedding light on the current development landscape in Metro Vancouver.
“The Awards of Excellence honour association members for their exceptional level of volunteer commitment and dedication to the enhancement of the professionalism of the homebuilding industry in Metro Vancouver,” said HAVAN Chief Executive Officer, Ron Rapp. “The 2019 winners reflect leaders in our community and the overall success of our member-driven association.”
Jake Fry of Smallworks Studios/Laneway Housing Inc., Vancouver, took home Builder of the Year. As a longstanding member of HAVAN and past two-term Board of Director, Jake sits on the CHBA BC Government Relations Committee, is a member of the City of Vancouver Regulation Redesign External Group, Co-Founder & Director, Small Housing BC, and is instrumental in the development of the “Permanently Affordable Homeownership” report, produced by Small Housing BC and the Small Housing Summit. Active in Urbanarium Talks – discussions on urban studies/planning policy, Jake is always available for expert advice and consultation to HAVAN.
The recipient for Corporate Member of the Year is DOS Design Group for their continued support of HAVAN’s industry education, and commitment to the association with committee participation, providing technical resources and access to studio space in support of HAVAN consumer education videos, assistance in trade show booth design, and support for grant applications.
The RenoMark ™ Renovator Member of the Year is TQ Construction. Represented by Ralph Belisle, Founder and Director of Sales, and Henri Belisle, President, this dynamic father/son duo actively participate and lead HAVAN initiatives for the betterment of homeowners and members. Henri serves on the Board of Directors, is Chair of the U40 Committee, member of the Renovation Council and has volunteered in many charitable HAVAN events. Past Chair/Director member Ralph is the current Chair of the Marketing Communications Committee, and participates on HAVAN’s Renovation Council. TQ Construction participates in a variety of consumer outreach events in support of connection homeowners with resources to build it right, the first time, including the Parade of Homes, Ovation Awards, and HAVAN’s education and training.
HAVAN members are committed to the communities where they live and build, raising funds in 2019 to support many initiatives including Nightshift Street Ministry (kitchen renovation $5850), HAVAN’s Centra Cares BCIT Scholarships to the School of Construction and the Environment ($10,000), Coats for Kids Christmas Drive in support of the Lower Mainland and Surrey Christmas Bureaus (6,000 coats and toys, plus $9,700), Guildford Park and Frank Hurt Secondary Schools (tools for trade courses $2,000), and Easter Seals House Summer Camps ($23,000).
