Renovations present many options for a homeowner. In the case of a Vancouver condo overlooking False Creek, faced with repairs due to water damage, the homeowners took the opportunity to update their dark, outdated condo. Hiring designers Designs by Katerina and Silvie, and builders Project Mint Developments, what initially felt like a problem, turned into a wonderful opportunity.
Speaking with Project Mint Developments, they elected to work with Pacific Rim Cabinets Ltd for their locally sourced products, perfect for the custom millwork and built-in cabinets designed and recommended by Katerina and Silvie to be used throughout the entire condo to enhance the sense of symmetry and open space.
A contemporary design aesthetic was chosen, with a colour scheme of light wood tones and whites.
The newly renovated main living space features a built in entertainment unit with a closed base and upper cabinet storage, bookshelf cabinets for display, open shelf cabinets for audio visual equipment, with a backer behind tv to tie in the look and hide tv cables. Cabinets extend to the ceiling to maximize storage.
Not one to ‘just update surfaces,’ Katerina and Silvie took the opportunity revisit the kitchen layout to maximize storage space.
By removing the original island and adding a large peninsula extra storage and counter space was realized. A quartz waterfall leg on end of peninsula was added for that extra wow factor. Additional storage solutions include upper cabinets mounted higher than standard, and balanced in design by adding a deeper set of cabinets sitting on the countertop, which provide easy access, with more than typical upper cabinet storage. Sleek appliances were incorporated to complete the streamlined design, including a microwave below counter with trim kit, and cooktop/wall oven combo with sleek, retractable hood fan.
Full sheet glass backsplash was selected for easy cleaning and mimics the frosted glass doors in the new office space.
Medicine Cabinets are another design favourite of Katerina and Silvie. Wall to wall and mirrored, with built-in lighting for that ‘hotel feel’, the cabinets provide for tons of storage, the perfect depth for paper products and or course toiletries.
