ANNUAL ELECTION MEETING, AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE & HANDSHAKE AWARDS PRESENTATIONS

Join us on October 3rd for our Annual Election Dinner Meeting. Tom Davidoff, an economics professor at the Sauder School of Business, will take an insightful look at various housing policies proposed by the front-running candidates in the city’s mayoral election, and who/which will be most successful in adding more supply to our local housing market.

Topics covered include: 
• Housing policy in terms of opportunity to sell zoning for cash to fund affordable housing and other objectives
• Tax reform and the impact on demand, prices, rents, and supply
• Prospects for home price growth and volatility in coming years

Preceding Davidoff’s talk, we will present our GVHBA Association Awards of Excellence and Handshake Awards followed by our Annual Elections Meeting where a new slate of directors will be elected. We will then hear from our incoming Chair, Centra Construction Group’s Garett Wall.

Association Awards
The 2018 GVHBA Awards of Excellence, recognizing association volunteers who have made significant contributions to furthering the goals of GVHBA, will be presented at the meeting. As well, Handshake Awards will be presented by the Suppliers’ Council to the builder, renovator and supplier member who have used the greatest number of GVHBA members over the past year. Election of Officers and Directors
The Nominations Committee has recommended a slate of candidates for the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the 2018/2019 term of office. See the recommended slate here; See the director nominees’ bio here. Should circumstances prevent you from attending, this Proxy Form enables you to designate an alternative voter. Only members in good standing (paid-up membership fees) are eligible to vote.

The GVHBA 2018 Annual Report, and Committee and Council Reports, will be available at the meeting.

  • Tom Davidoff

    Tom Davidoff is an associate professor in the Real Estate and Strategy and Business Economics groups at the Sauder School of Business, UBC. Prior to joining UBC, Davidoff obtained degrees from Harvard, Princeton, and MIT, and worked in real estate development in Brooklyn and as an assistant professor at UC Berkeley. While at UBC, Davidoff has advised the White House on housing and mortgage policy, and worked with two startup real estate intelligence companies. Davidoff’s research on aging, insurance, housing, and public policy has been published in leading journals in finance, real estate, and economics.
