2023 HAVAN Awards for Housing Excellence Finalists Announced.

Vancouver, B.C.: Finalists of the Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) Awards for Housing Excellence, presented by FortisBC, were announced on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Vancouver’s iconic Hollywood Theatre.

HAVAN CEO Ron Rapp said, ‘The Hollywood Theatre was the perfect locale to host the Reveal Reception. Built in the 1930’s, during a time when Vancouver was also rapidly growing, the art deco theater highlights the benefits of building a legacy for generations to come.’

Capturing the very best in new-home construction, renovation and design projects, the HAVAN Awards for Housing Excellence places a spotlight on the accomplishments of Metro Vancouver’s homebuilding industry showcasing awe-inspiring custom-built homes, premier production homes and whole-home renovations, complete with state-of-the-art automation, luxurious primary suites, breath-taking kitchens, and outdoor living spaces.

Faced with one of the biggest decisions homeowners will make in their lives, when looking to purchase, build, or renovate, Rapp notes, “The residential construction industry is going through some of the biggest changes we have seen in the past 100 years, with the BC Building Code adopting the Energy Step Code requirements, with the goal to build to net zero by 2032, and the laser focus on increasing supply from all levels of government. Building homes today, there is science behind every wall as we look to lessen our carbon footprint and increase the resiliency of our homes. I recommend homeowners do their due diligence and seek to work with professionals who are up-to-date on the latest building science for the benefit of their families and protection of their investment.”

At the same time as our industry looks to improve the way we build homes, the province and cities are recognizing the value of the single-family lot as a means toward gentle densification, building more affordable ground-oriented housing options, while maintaining the character of our neighbourhoods.

“As our cities relax restrictions on laneways and open the door to the idea of stratifying the single-family lot, homeowners are faced with opportunities to create generational wealth, while housing future generations and strengthening connections in our neighbourhoods. This year, 101 builders and designers are vying for a win in 54 award categories. A premier industry-recognized awards program, now in its 14th year, finalists are selected through a rigorous judging process, by a peer-reviewed panel of award-winning builders, renovators, and designers from across the country. Finalists and winners proudly showcase the HAVAN Awards symbol, making it easy for homeowners to identify trusted, local builders and designers, providing an added layer of confidence.
