Vancouver, BC: The Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) presented its annual Association Leadership Awards (formerly the Association Awards of Excellence) online, November 4, 2020. Guest speaker Jean Lamontagne, General Manager, Planning & Development, City of Surrey presented an update on Surrey’s planning and development processes.
“The HAVAN Leadership Awards honour association members for their exceptional level of leadership, volunteer commitment and dedication to the enhancement of the professionalism of the homebuilding industry in Metro Vancouver,” said HAVAN Chief Executive Officer, Ron Rapp. “The 2020 winners reflect leaders in our community and the overall success of our member-driven association.”
Doug Langford of JDL Homes Vancouver, took home the Chair Award of Honour for his continued work in promoting HAVAN’s member and consumer education and training. Doug continues to share his knowledge with builders in the field, openly sharing his experience in building high performance homes. Doug is also an active member of the HAVAN Reno Council and has appeared on HAVAN’s consumer-facing podcast Measure Twice, Cut Once, helping homeowners build and renovate right, the first time.
Caliber Projects, Langley, was recognized as Builder of the Year, helping to welcome young members into the industry via the Under 40 Committee, a critical component to maintaining the livelihood of the residential construction industry, faced with continued labour shortages, and an aging labour force. Calibre Projects also actively participated in the HAVAN Heroes campaign to collectively raise $55,000, in support of Easter Seals House, helping kids of all abilities get to summer camps and work programs.
The recipient for Corporate Member of the Year is Trail Appliances, recognized for their continued support of connecting consumers with HAVAN members through Home Show Ask-the-Expert panel presentations, and the annual Coats for Kids drive, collecting coats, toys and monies for families in need, as well as supporting the HAVAN Awards for Housing Excellence, a program designed to highlight the best home building, renovation and design projects in Metro Vancouver.
The RenoMark ™ Renovator Member of the Year is Sasen Homes, Burnaby. Represented by Matthew Senf, Matthew actively participates in the HAVAN Marketing Communication Committee, focused on connecting homeowners with the resources to build and renovate, right, the first time, as well as regularly participating in the Renovation Council for the purpose of sharing knowledge to advance renovation industry standards.
HAVAN members are committed to the communities where they live and build, raising funds in 2020 to support many initiatives including HAVAN’s BCIT Scholarships to the School of Construction and the Environment ($10,000), sponsored in part by Centra Cares, Coats for Kids Christmas Drive in support of the Lower Mainland and Surrey Christmas Bureaus (6,000 coats and toys, plus $10,600), and Easter Seals House Summer Camps ($55,000).
