MEDIA RELEASE: SILVER LINING FOUND IN COATS FOR KIDS

Vancouver, BC: The Homebuilders Association Vancouver zipped up the holiday season raising just over $25,000, while collecting thousands of coats, both gently used and new for the 25th annual Coats for Kids campaign, in support of the Lower Mainland and Surrey Christmas Bureaus, two groups whose many initiatives help to provide a warmer winter for families in need.

On a tip from the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, Executive Director Chris Bayliss hinted that cash donations would be easier to manage this year with a decrease in manpower due to the pandemic. Recognizing the limitations faced by the bureaus and our members to collect coats as many offices are closed due to COVID-19, HAVAN initiated the $25 for 25 Years Campaign with the goal to raise $25,000.00.

Ron Rapp, HAVAN CEO said ‘given it was our 25th anniversary collecting coats, we refused to let the tradition lapse. This is too important of a cause with hundreds of families in need each year.’ Members responded to the challenge noting over the past 25 years, it is estimated that 75,000+ coats for kids and teenagers have been donated.

The silver lining during the pandemic? The additional funds raised! Rapp said, ‘HAVAN knows the power of community, noting $25,000 was a lofty goal, but when broken down into $25 increments, suddenly the challenge became more attainable.’ In addition to reaching the financial goal, 37 members were still able to offer 43 drop-off locations resulting in thousands of new coats being donated too.

Special recognition goes out to the following HAVAN members for their generous cash donations above and beyond the $25 ask:
