SPA-TACULAR – 2014 Bathroom trends
Imagine how amazing it would be to go to the spa every day! It’s not such a far off idea. Think about it. Every morning you spend time in the bathroom preparing for the day ahead. And the same holds true at the end of the day as you unwind from the office or from running around with the kids.
The spa may not be as far away as you think!
Talking with our HAVAN builders and suppliers, bathroom design trends for 2014 are heading to the spa! Think of your favourite luxury hotel or spa and you will get the general idea – that “ultimate get away” experience.
Working with your custom home builder, it will be important to consider both function and esthetics to create the greatest sense of luxury and personal space. Creating a sense of calm and space is essential when designing a spa-like bathroom. Here are six 2014 designer tips and trends to help you reach that zen.
1. Bathroom Vanities
Floating, wall hung vanities allow for continuous flooring, creating a sense of open flowing space. Vanities with hidden cupboards are great space savers and also help eliminate clutter.
2. Bathroom Fixtures
Bathroom fixtures with contemporary, strong, clean lines offer a sense of timelessness and are easily cleaned. Polished chrome, stainless steel and nickel continue to stand the test of time.
3. Earth Tones in the Bathroom
Earth tones and neutral accents offset white bathroom features and create a calming, less sterile effect. Matt neutral tiles are a simple way to break up the white and are less likely to show water residue.
4. Frameless and Free Form Showers
Frameless, free-form showers made with 10mm glass and stainless steel hinges and handles create a seamless look of custom luxury and allow for unobstructed views. The open concept showcases accent tiles. To maximize space, designers are creating built in ledges for bath products and or seats.
5. Low-flow Toilets and Faucets
Low flow toilets and faucet aerators reduce water usage, upwards of 30%, while delivering consistent if not better water pressure. There are some amazing overhead showerheads that maximize water drop size, velocity and space coverage to create a true rain coast experience.
6. Bathroom Showers With Steam Options, Built-in Stereos, Chromatherapy
And if your budget allows there are endless new technologies to consider. Walk-in showers with steam options and bathtubs with built in stereo systems and chromatherapy (colour light therapy) to offer a genuine spa experience. My favourite is the “cool cabinet” – a built in refrigerator in the vanity. Perfect for temperature sensitive medications, perishable organic skin products and fresh cool water after time in the shower.
