Tell us about yourself & your company?
Todd: I am passionate about teaching and problem-solving and I believe these values are reflected in my custom home building process as a result. As a Red Seal Carpenter myself, I love having the opportunity to train the next generation of quality craftsmen. Whether new construction, restoration, or renovation, our team’s solution-driven attitude has been a key factor in helping to create something unique for each of our clients.
How did you get into the residential construction industry?
Todd: Growing up, I was surrounded by the building models of my father, Garry Best, who was an architect and contractor. As I began working with him, I became fascinated with restorations, initially, and the process of bringing new life to an aged building. This passion for thoughtfully crafted re-design inspired the founding of Best Builders.
What keeps you in the industry?
Todd: My genuine love for the home building process keeps me in this industry. I find great joy in being able to encourage education and exercise creativity throughout our industry’s never-ending challenges.
While navigating covid-19, what new opportunities have you discovered?
Todd: Although it has been tough for all, it has been rewarding to meet with homeowners, and families, and hear a common attitude of intentionality when discussing each project. With much more time being spent at home over the last year, it has understandably encouraged a more thoughtful approach to both designing and building.
Itâs 11AM Saturday morning, what are you up to?
Todd: If I am not out for a walk with my lovely wife and our many dogs, you’ll find me in my workshop chipping away at a side project.
What are your hobbies?
Todd: In addition to woodworking, I have always loved classic cars and trucks and I am currently in the midst of rebuilding the box of my ’65 Dodge Power Wagon.
Proudest moment?
Todd: Becoming a father may be my proudest moment, but it is also wrapped up in the ongoing process of watching my four amazing kids tackle life with integrity- both in and out of the family business.
What have you done in your community in the last year?
Todd: My family and I have a big heart for our local food bank. In addition to donations and blanket-drives, our company is also committed to sponsoring community sports teams/athletes. We also loved being a part of this past year’s HAVAN Heroes’ Drop Zone event!

What are you excited for / looking forward to right now?
Todd: It has been very exciting to watch my oldest kids, and my son-in-law, begin to play a much more major role in the family business. I am looking forward to being able to continue sharing my love for what I do with them as they continue to take on more responsibility and shape the future of our company.
Share an interesting fact about your life?
Todd: I did not have an easy time making my way through high school, with many teachers doubting I would ever make it much further.
