Ron is in Banff AB this week at CHBA National meetings.
On January 11, all committee and council Chairs and Vice-Chairs met for the bi-annual Cross Chair Meeting with the goal to foster collaboration between groups, with a focus on strengthening value to members through premier networking opportunities. The resulting 2023 Calendar of Events provides a snapshot of the year ahead, noting as ticket sales open for an event, registration will be via HAVAN.ca/events. Featuring one major event per month, plus a multitude of smaller events throughout the year, there is no shortage of opportunities to connect in 2023. As a result of collaboration at the Cross Chair Meeting, the committees and councils are also working on dedicated webpages, which will be launching later this spring, to provide additional exposure and easy access to individual committee/council initiatives.
HAVAN’s HUB (our new database system members use to access account and billing information) has been in place now for almost one year. Launched last March, in addition to your company information, the HUB is a quick place to connect online with members. It is also packed with resources too. Quick links include access to:
- Online Directory, with key member contact information
- Government relations reports
- Upcoming education courses including the online eLearn platform (open to all of your employees at member rates), noting you can view past courses registered for, a helpful reminder when submitting CPD points for builder licensing.
- Affinity Partners (Baseline Payments, Federated Insurance, Kuhn LLP) special member rates,
- Job postings (you can post directly via the HUB)
- Member-to-member-only marketplace (a great place to off-load extra materials, or offer time-limited special member rates on products and services.)
- The HAVAN logo is also filed here as needed for your corporate marketing (car wraps, fencing, website etc.)

With Ron at the National Meetings, it is a good time to remind everyone, your HAVAN membership provides access to three levels of government – with local, provincial, and federal representation, plus added resources and benefits too! I would be remiss not to mention HAVAN’s 12 committee and council executives and members that meet on a regular basis to plan initiatives and share resources in support of HAVAN’s board directed strategic plan (also located in the HUB under resources). Government Relations, Education & Training (plus the Technical Advisory Group), Suppliers Council with Golf Committee, Renovator & Custom Homebuilders Council, Women’s Council, Designers Council, Membership Committee, Marketing Communications Committee (and the HAVAN Awards Task Force), and the Young Professionals Committee are working on behalf of all HAVAN members, and we thank you.

HAVAN continues to work with CHBA BC and CHBA to advocate for all levels of government to work together to address the challenges of the housing industry including zoning restrictions, density limits, and NIMBYism.
