HAVAN’s Legends of Housing is a premier annual event featuring three influential industry leaders who have made significant impacts on Metro Vancouver’s residential construction industry.
In 2024, HAVAN is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and as a nod to this milestone, is honoured to announce this year’s Legends:
- Michael Audain, Chairman, Polygon Homes Ltd.
- Charan Sethi, President and CVO, Tien Sher Group of Companies,
- David Podmore, OBC, Co-Founder and Chair, Concert Properties; and,
- Eric Carlson, Core Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Anthem Properties Group
The lively panel discussion will focus on a retrospective of the industry over the past 50 years, with panelists sharing their histories, experiences in this changing market, their personal and company goals, ESG contributions and impact, and will offer insights on the homebuilding industry for the next 50 years.
Hosted by HAVAN’s Government Relations Committee, Legends of Housing is a must-attend event, bringing together more than 250 people, including C-suite and upper-level executives, elected government representatives, industry leadership, developers, builders, and HAVAN members.

MEET THE LEGENDS
MICHAEL AUDAIN Chairman, Polygon Homes Ltd. |
Michael Audain is Chairman of Polygon Homes Ltd., one of British Columbia’s leading home builders. The company has built over 33,000 homes in Metro Vancouver since he founded it in 1980 and has received numerous awards for its integrity and building excellence. Mr. Audain, a fifth generation British Columbian, was educated at the University of British Columbia and the London School of Economics. He is a Governor and Past Chairman of the Business Council of British Columbia, Member and Past President of the Urban Development Institute, a Member of the UDI Hall of Fame, and a Business Laureate of the British Columbia Hall of Fame. An active supporter of the arts, Mr. Audain is Chair of the Jean Paul Riopelle Foundation, the Audain Foundation, and the Audain Art Museum Foundation. He is past Chair of the National Gallery of Canada and the Vancouver Art Gallery. He is also a Trustee of the Audain Art Museum, Director of the Art Canada Institute, and Director Emeritus of the National Gallery of Canada Foundation. Mr. Audain has been appointed to the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia, and the Order of Patrons in Québec. He has received six honorary degrees, as well as the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals. |

Charan Sethi’s journey is a remarkable tale of perseverance and entrepreneurial spirit. Born in the vibrant city of Jalandhar, Punjab, India, Charan embarked on a life-altering adventure at 13 when he relocated to the United Kingdom alongside his two siblings. In 1976, at 25, Charan and his wife boldly moved to Canada, initially settling in Toronto before eventually making Richmond their permanent home in 1978. In 1984, he embarked on a journey to become a real estate agent, transitioning into a full-time realtor in 1985. Over the years, his unwavering dedication and commitment to excellence earned him many awards and accolades. Charan’s innovative spirit set him apart in the real estate industry. He honed the art of being a ‘one-stop shop’ for real estate developer clients, streamlining services that encompassed everything from land assembly and rezoning to design, sales, and servicing new home projects. In 2001, Charan took a momentous step into the development world, focusing on niche single-family and multi-family projects, eventually founding the Tien Sher Group of Companies in 2003. Tien Sher was conceived with a noble mission—to create housing affordability through groundbreaking new home solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of homebuyers. After nearly two decades, it has blossomed into a mid-sized, vertically integrated development and construction company dedicated to crafting forward-thinking home projects tailored to the ever-changing requirements of Metro Vancouver area home buyers. Charan has been honored as the Surrey Board of Trade’s Philanthropist of the Year in 2017 and Businessperson of the Year in 2019, a testament to his outstanding achievements and visionary leadership. DAVID PODMORE, OBC Co-Founder and Chair, Concert Properties |
Recognized as an icon in the Canadian real estate industry, David Podmore, OBC brings more than four decades of experience to Concert Properties, the company he co-founded in 1989. As a result of his leadership and vision, Concert Properties has grown into one of Canada’s most reputable developers. Today, David serves as Chair of Concert Properties and Concert Infrastructure. He is also Chair of INSPIRE, the largest ever British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) fundraising campaign. He previously served as President of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association, Chair of the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, and was a member of the Business Council of British Columbia’s Executive Committee, among many other Board roles. David received the first Award of Excellence granted by the Real Estate Institute of BC, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and in 2014 was invested to the Order of British Columbia. |
