Townhomes becoming ‘forever’ homes

Builders are responding to market demand with a variety of housing choices. With affordability an issue, townhomes are no longer viewed as a step to a forever home, but as a permanent home and in many cases, come complete with all the luxuries of a traditional single-family home.

Take Zenterra Developments’ award-winning Soho 2 in Surrey. The spacious 2,100 sq.-ft., four-level, 3.5-bath townhome design appeals to both downsizers and young families with children.

The home’s layout allows space for a comfortable, active lifestyle. Open-concept living on the main floor offers space for cooking, dining, socializing and relaxing. Featuring high-ceilings, the generous-sized windows fill the interior with natural light. Showcasing solid-slab quartz countertops and single-slab backsplash, the kitchen has striking linear lines. The island is multi-functional as a food-prep area, clean-up station, breakfast bar, gathering place – the heart of the home.

A custom-built entertainment wall, complete with a built-in bookcase surrounding the fireplace sets the stage in the living room while acting as a hidden wire-management system. Units also include tiled entryways for high durability with a smart design, a two-car garage and ground-floor home office/guest room off the main.

The master bedroom has ample closet space, more than most townhomes, with laundry conveniently located upstairs. Top it off with a 712-sq.-ft. rooftop patio and one can see the benefits!

Built to stand the test of time, appliances and materials include EnergyStar Jenn-Air appliances, high-efficiency tank-less hot water, expansive Low-E windows, low VOC paint, multiple light banks to control area lighting, forced-air heating, recycle centre for garbage/recyclables, BBQ hookups including those serving the rooftop patio, comfort enhanced by natural light, and ventilation from large windows and sliding glass doors.

Add in the community building with 5,200-sq.-ft. of additional space over three levels including two kitchens, a theatre, gym, pool table lounge and patio with built-in barbecue, there is plenty of additional room for homeowners to enjoy.

In an area of tremendous growth, this award-winning 60-unit development stands out with clean-cut lines and crisp white colour, establishing a unique timeless look to traditional architecture. Laid out in a methodical way, the flat-roof buildings mesh beautifully within the community. Greenspaces are found throughout the site, including old-growth tree retention in some of the greenspaces, establishing this new development, naturally.
